At the time of Sholay’s shooting, Dharmendra used to ruin his scenes by paying money to Light Boy for repetitive scenes with Hema Malini. For Dharmendra to get more opportunities to fall in love with Hema.

Gabbar Singh’s khaki uniform was purchased at Chor Bazaar in Mumbai. The uniform was not washed once during the shooting all to give Gabbar a look like a dirty robber.

A criminal named Gabbar was born in the village of Chambal. In his lifetime, Jaya Bhaduri’s father wrote a book called ‘Abhishapt Chambal’. He used to catch the police leaving his nose and ears closed. Gabbar of the film was inspired by that.

Amjad Khan was terrified during the shooting. He had to hand out 40 retakes with the first shot. His voice was also unpopular with members of the unit. It is also considered that they were excluded.

When Dharmendra heard the story of the film, he felt that Thakur’s place was strong because the story was between the battle of Thakur and Gabbar. He did not see the great power in Veeru’s role. Ramesh Sippy got the idea. He told Dharmendra that Thakur would not get a chance to fall in love with the film while Veeru had many love scenes with the heroine Hema Malini. Dharmendra’s heart was in Hema at the time. Sanjeev Kumar also liked Hema. Sippy said he would replace Veeru’s Sanjeev Kumar. The plan worked and Dharam Paaji agreed to play the role of Veeru.

While dating Hema Malini, Dharmendra deliberately made mistakes so that she could spend more time with Hema. When it was discovered that Garam Dharam was deliberately performing these duties, Dharam devised another tactic. They often paid members of the unit in exchange for making mistakes.

A few days before Sholay’s shooting, Sanjeev Kumar proposed to marry Hema Malini, who was rejected by Hema. For this reason, the scenes between the two in Sholay are ignored. Hours later the plane was ready to take off, so there were only five passengers on board. Everyone else went back. Amjad thought in the flying sky that if the plane crashed, Danny would get the role of Gabbar.

Sholay’s film was filmed for five consecutive years at Cinemas Minerva in Bombay. Prior to this, the film Bombay Talkies ‘Kismet’ (1943) lasted for three and a half years in Calcutta.
